How We Built the Speezu Commerce and Delivery Ecosystem
A closer look at the product decisions behind a connected commerce and delivery platform for customers, stores and delivery operations.
Speezu is a commerce and delivery ecosystem built around the complete order journey — customers, stores, platform administrators and riders all work inside one connected system. This article looks at the product decisions behind it. For the full story, read the Speezu case study.
Customer commerce experience
The customer application is a full shopping journey: discovery, customisation, cart, checkout and tracking. Customers browse nearby stores, search products and manage orders without leaving the app.
Multiple product categories
Speezu spans food, supermarkets, retail and pharmacy. Each category keeps its own browsing and ordering flow inside one application, so the experience stays focused instead of becoming a cluttered all-in-one.
Search and favourites
Fast search, search history and favourites help customers return to what they buy regularly — small features that materially improve day-to-day use.
Cart and checkout
Cart management, item summaries and a checkout flow designed to reduce friction keep the purchase journey clear. Product variations, optional extras and quantities are reflected correctly through to the final order.
Delivery and pickup
Customers choose delivery or pickup, and follow the order through clear stages from placed to delivered. Delivery availability is managed at the store level.
Payments
The platform supports cash-on-delivery and online payment flows through Paystack, with payment activity reported back to the administration panel.
Addresses and maps
Saved addresses and map-based location selection make ordering from a known location fast and reliable — an essential detail for delivery products.
Order status tracking
Clear order stages are surfaced consistently across the customer, store, administrator and rider interfaces, so every role acts on the same operational lifecycle.
The rider workflow
A dedicated rider application handles the last mile: new delivery requests, acceptance, pickup and completion states, and QR-verified handover for secure, fraud-free deliveries.
Connected operational roles
Stores manage catalogues and fulfilment, administrators oversee stores, riders, commissions and payments. The ecosystem keeps every participant aligned as orders change state.
Cross-platform Flutter development
The customer and rider applications are built with Flutter, using predictable state management, REST APIs and the integrations commerce and delivery require — including Google Maps and push notifications.
Conclusion
Speezu shows how a multi-role commerce and delivery product becomes one coordinated ecosystem. Read the Speezu case study for the full product and engineering detail.
